What an amazing day! Our wonderful students did an outstanding job performing at the assembly this morning. Thank you to all the parents who were able to come out and watch our class share their learning. The wall story we read this morning, comes from our work with Miriam Trehearne, Literacy Specialist. All staff at Ken Taylor have been working closely with Miriam, to strengthen our literacy strategies to support our learners. Wall stories are a proven way to develop oral language and comprehension, while strengthening their reading and writing skills!
If you were not able to watch the performance, please feel free to contact me at sibrar@cbe.ab.ca to set up a time for you to come in and view it. Unfortunately due to some students not having third party clearance, I am unable to upload the video online.

Volunteers Needed!
Dear Parents, On May 8 and 9, all grade one students will be participating in an in-school field trip. Here is what they will be participating in...
Let’s build a zoo!
Working in groups, students will explore a variety of materials and fasteners as they construct zoo enclosures. Students will also construct their own 3D animal and will take the entire project home. Join our zookeeper on this building adventure!

-Apr 11th – Grade 1 Zoo Field trip
-Apr 12th - School Council 6:30 pm
-Apr 14th – Good Friday – no school
-Apr 17th – Student-Led Conferences
Power Words for this Week:

Please ask your child what words rhyme with "may/play" and "get." We realized today, if we can read and spell "get," we can read and spell 10 more new words!!!
Home Reading:Yay!!! (Yay rhymes with may ;)
On Friday, students will be coming home with Home Reading books and instructions. Students are encouraged to continue using RazKids as well.
Calgary Zoo Field Trip:
We are maxed out for volunteers. Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in volunteering! This field trip will be helping us kick-off our "Needs of Plants and Animals" unit for Science. We will also be writing both fiction and non-fiction about the animals we visit.
Walking Field Trip: (Photos to Come)
Today, both 1C and 1D (Bakkan/Brar) went on a short walking field trip around the school grounds to observe shapes in our community. Students were surprised to see shapes everywhere.
Thank you for standing back and allowing the teachers to hand the students off to their designated pick-up person at the end of the day. We appreciate the support.
Enjoy the Spring weather this evening!
