Another Great Day in 1C!

Dear 1C Family!

TODAY:

We had another great day in grade one!

We almost finished our "Classroom Superheros."  Students brainstormed superpowers that grade one students would have to be "Super" in a grade one classroom.  We will post some pictures and students comments tomorrow as we finish up.

We started the sorting portion of our Patterns and Relations unit in Math.  Students were called up to the front of the class based on a similar attribute, i.e., wearing a certain colour, having buttons on their clothes, having a ponytail, etc.  The other students then guessed what they had in common.  They were awesome detectives and students were excited to participate.

We drew a self-portrait in our sketchbooks and will re-visit this activity throughout the year to see how we have changed.

We also played with the Math manipulative again today and created some patterns.

We practiced printing our names on our whiteboards and reviewed some tricky letters.  We focused on printing our names with an uppercase letter to begin and lower case for the remaining letters.  We had some fun drawing on the whiteboards too.

For a quick body break, we danced to "Go Noodle" on the SmartBoard.

We read, "David Goes to School" by David Shannon.  We thought it was pretty funny!  That David sure is naughty! :)

We ended the day with Physical Education and Music.

REMINDERS:

1.) Please return your child's student information package which was sent home Tuesday, September 6th at your earliest convenience.

2.) We have a nutrition break at 9:45am, followed by outdoor recess.  I stay with the students outside during this time.  It is great to see the students making up games and having a great time outside.  The majority of students are eating multiple healthy snacks during this time.  Thank you for sending healthy snacks parents!

3.) Please make sure that your child is able to put on their indoor and outdoor shoes independently.  If they are coming to school with laces, please ensure they can tie them up.  There are some great YouTube videos and other resources on the Internet to help them learn.  I will continue to help the students having difficulty with their laces but your help would be greatly appreciated.  I often have to get the rest of the class settled before I can assist with laces.

4.) As the year progresses, I will be sending out a "wish list" for volunteers.  Please contact the office to make sure you have clearance.

Have a great evening and see you tomorrow!
